26 Weeks - 6 month memories

June 13, 2011
By Cyndi

Can it really be true? 6 months ago today, Matt and I laid in bed for 3 hrs in the early morning hours, debating if my water broke and around 4am, when we decided that we should head to labor and delivery, we leisurely showered, ate breakfast, Matt packed his bag and we drove there. A few snow flakes (the first "snow" of the season) were in the air. I remember knowing that it was it, one day after joking to my brother on his birthday, "Are you screening your calls, when your sister is almost ready to pop?"  It was the one and only time I had joked about making THE CALL and look what happened, 12 hrs later, we were there, waiting for my OB to tell us when it would be our turn to meet our two little ones.

I can remember not being too nervous.  The spinal block didn't hurt and within a few minutes, Tyler was pulled out ... "It's a boy", I smiled and tried not to cry too much .... "It's a boy", and I thought to myself, Really? No way, we'd thought it was going to be a boy and girl. Our little guys of just around 4lbs were wheeled off to the NICU as I laid there while they stitched me up. I was in recovery for a bit before Matt returned and I started questioning him about how they were. Within a few minutes, I sent him back to the NICU for pictures. I wanted to see them, since I knew I wouldn't be allowed down there for a few hours. Wow, that day was 6 months ago?? Our little boys are not so little anymore.

We will post their current stats later this week after the pediatrician visit. Let me try to share how the past two months have evolved (here is where they were at 4 months):
  • Bottles: We have continued feeding 5 times per day, with both boys averaging 29 oz per day, up from 24 oz per day at 4 months. We have officially switched to regular formula. Yay for only spending $25 / week instead of $50+ / week!
  • Schedule: With eating every three hours between 7a & 7p, they boys are napping "on demand" for anywhere between 30 min and 90 minutes between each feeding. Their nap time total for the day is around 3-4 hours.
  • Solids: At 5 months we started rice cereal. About a week after starting, Tyler started to open his mouth and eating. Zach still didn't get it until I faced Zach towards Tyler and I fed Tyler only. On that night, Zach "got it" and started to open his mouth. They are currently eating around 1/4 cup of rice cereal once per day. We will start vegetables and fruits very very soon!
  • Movement: They both roll from back to tummy & tummy to back. They have started to roll continuously and are making off their play mat to the wood floor. Time for babyproofing!!
  • Plagio: Both boys had doc bands at 5 months. They are progressing well and we are excited with the results. Only a few weeks and they should have them off.
  • Clothes: They are almost too big for 6 month clothes and we are moving to 6-9 & 9 month. With the heat, they are mostly in simple onesies or rompers.
  • Diapers: We are close to moving the boys to size 3 diapers, probably around 6.5 months. It's always better to move up in size before the blowouts start!
  • Fine Motor skills: They are grabbing toys or anything within their reach.
  • Gross Motor skills: They LOVE the jumperoo and can jump around in it for 30 minutes before they are bored and want to do something else.
  • Reflux: They are still taking Zantac & Prevacid daily.

Hi Brother!!

Mom, I don't need to stay on this little mat anymore, I like to roll around!

Matt's margarita comparison
Matt decided that we should try fresh sour mix, instead of store bought.  We made two margaritas, left with store bought, right with home-made sour.  Let's just say, I'm not sure if we will ever buy the premade stuff again!
