Week 29

By Cyndi
October 25, 2010

The past week has been filled with a lot of boring stuff. I will try to keep it short.
  • Baby Care class - I can't say we are experts, but we know how to swaddle properly and think we might be able to manage during the first bath.
  • Childbirth express - Why Express? Well, normal class is either full day (8-10 hrs) or 4 week night, 3 hrs per night. We went for the 6 hr class in one afternoon. Learned a lot and now have a lot of questions to ask the OB.
  • No progress on the replacement part from the crib. Matt will be on that later this week to find out the status.
  • Art for the nursery still isn't up yet, since the matting was cut incorrectly. Matt's working on this one too.
  • Ultrasound - had another on this past Monday. Growth is steady and on pace for a singleton. They both weigh 3 lbs! Yes, I can truly say I'm carrying around a watermelon now!!
  • It's just about 4-8 weeks left ... where has the time gone?
  • Looking forward to:
    • A quick visit from Gayle (Matt's mom) this weekend, though she's staying with Daniel
    • Trick-or-treaters at our door and Meigs freaking out every time the doorbell rings
    • Wishing another friend good luck in her 30's ... (I know, my day will come too)

Week 28 -- 3rd Trimester!

By Cyndi
October 19, 2010

I'd like to thank those who have entered their guesses into the baby pool ... it's fun to see what everyone thinks!

How Far Along:  28 weeks
Total Weight Gain / Loss:  oh ... a bit shy of 40 lbs ... (yes, I am publicly admitting this)
Maternity Clothes:  Of course!  I may never go back to pants with a real waist again.  Matt might disagree.
Sleep:  I turn over, drink water, use the bathroom, move around about every hour ... I wonder how either of us are actually sleeping right now!
Best Moment of the Week:  Officially making it to third trimester and seeing the artwork we bought for the nursery framed!  (Though the matting needs some adjustments, so we can't hang it for another week.)
Worst Moment of the Week:  Realizing as wonderful as 3rd trimester is, we have 6-10 weeks left (yup, 6 weeks till my birthday, 10 weeks until Christmas) ... where has the time gone!
Names: ** New Topic **  I am happy to announce that Matt and I have 3 of the 4 first names decided on.  Still need another one, along with all the middle names and  Hebrew news (which reminds me - DAD, I need the Hebrew name list soon, please!)
Movement:  Yes, they are still kicking around in there.  I am excited for the next ultrasound in a week to see what position they are in.
Belly Button In or Out:  Well, some would say its an outie, but I disagree.  It's a little of each and I hope it doesn't progress any further!
What I Miss:  8 hrs of sleep without waking up, walking up a flight of stairs with being out of breath, a glass of wine on a Friday night after a long week at work, do I need to keep going?
What I am Looking Forward to:  Meeting the last doctor in the OB practice, visiting another pediatrician office (yes, we are shopping around), our 3 hour baby care class at a local hospital, & childbirth express class this weekend (these kids better be head down or we are going to a 6 hr class for general knowledge!)
Milestones: Baby's now the size of an eggplant!  S/he weights two and a quarter pounds and measures 14.5 inches from the top of the head to his/her  heels.  Baby's lungs are mature enough that, if born right now, s/he has a pretty good change of surviving (with help from medical technology).  His/her skin is still pretty .wrinkly (one byproduct of living in amniotic fluid) but will smooth out as fat continues to deposit.

Week 28

Meigs took the "picture spot" and I had to move him to get the picture above!
And a new type of comparison for your enjoyment ...

Week 27

By Cyndi
October 12, 2010

First of all, I'd like to thank last week's blogger for his post, though I have a feeling he will be authoring more as time goes on.  He received many compliments on his post.  The Engineer says thanks for allowing her to take a week off!

Please submit your baby pool guesses (link is above) .... so far, we have two and I'm sure there's more faithful readers who have guesses!!!

The last week has been quite eventful.  Cribs are almost fully assembled.  One is complete and the other has a manufacturing defect.  Matt will be calling and figuring out how to have them fix it tomorrow.  The room layout is different than we thought, but works well.  Everything fits and hopefully keeps the cribs far enough apart that if little arms and fingers try to reach out, they won't touch each other.

With the all clear from Dr. S, off we went to Dallas.  We had a fabulous time with our Purdue friends, celebrating Michael & Ashley's wedding.  We went to the Texas State Fair, where you can have fried everything ... here's a sampling of pictures from our day:

Fried Oreo

Remnants of turkey leg

Enjoyed a tasty rehearsal dinner ...

And the wedding ... where we drank & danced the night away ...

The last trip without "extra" carry-ons is in the books ... unless we have some volunteers to come to babysit in 2011 and beyond!

Week 26

By Matt
October 5, 2010

As a guest blogger, I will try to make this run-of-the-mill week's recap as lively as Cyndi. The nursery painting, with touch-ups, is now complete and the assembly of the cribs has commenced. One crib's frame is built and today I shall do the same with the second. The room's setup may have to be modified from the Engineer's original specifications - we need about a 2 foot extension on the room for the 2 cribs, 2 dressers and a glider plus ottoman to fit the way we had envisioned it. So now I will have to maneuver large items of furniture around a confined space until the Engineer will sign off on the work. Can't wait.

In other baby news, the twins have been practicing their WWF moves in the womb - maybe we can refer to them as the Bushwackers? To anyone who understands this reference, my brothers and I am proud of you.
Cyndi scored some nice toys and other items at a local consignment sale over the weekend. She brought everything into the house and put in on the main level to allow Meigs to smell and hear all the noises that emanate from the toys; he seemed okay with it all. I keep trying to tell him how different things will be when the twins arrive, but I don't think he's paying attention.

As Cyndi mentioned in the previous post, the twins are now transverse, meaning they are both laying horizontal. I was telling this to Todd and Stacie a few hours after learning of this information, but I said "traverse," not knowing the difference. Stacie looks at me funny and says, "Um, I think you mean transverse. Isn't traverse a car?" Ha, shows what I know.

Lastly, for some good news:
We had a doctor visit yesterday specifically to have the OB clear Cyndi for travel this weekend for a wedding in Dallas. After looking at the stats from last week's ultrasound and making sure Cyn was feeling fine, we got the all clear! We then asked for a note to bring with us to the airport in case airline personnel give us any issues. OB writes it out, gives it to us, and as we are trying to decipher the words, he tells us what he wrote and then says, "I purposely wrote it really small so hopefully anyone who asks for it will just look at the signature and wave you on." Needless to say, we like this guy.

Here's a few pictures from the ultra sound last week:
