1.28 Saba's visit

June 26, 2012
By Cyndi

Here we are at the end of June and again, I start to wonder where the month went.  Saba (my dad) arrived mid-week and stayed through the weekend.  I "rescheduled" his visit so he could watch the boys while Matt and I volunteered at NOVA Brewfest, for the 5th year in a row.

Word Count: Ball, Cheese, Bye, Uh Oh, bubu (bubble)

Instead of boring you with any more details, here is our week in pictures!

1.27 18 Months & Partying like we are rockstars!!

By Cyndi
June 18, 2012

This past weekend, we took a 36 hour trip to NY and back to celebrate a Bat Mitzvah with my family.  It was the first time most of the Gimpels would meet T&Z, along with our first road trip!

Uncle Jim (Saba's brother)
The drive up was perfect.  4.25 hours of driving and a 45 min stop for breakfast.  We checked into the hotel, enjoyed the luggage cart rides, took a swim in the pool and then it was naptime.  Hotel sleeping went well, except we were in a suite and the bathroom only had access from the main room.  So we had to tiptoe and hope the guys didn't wake up.  Saturday was the service, at which I personally think T&Z were VERY well behaved.  One of the ushers asked me to leave (while I was already standing near the door) and I said No, I will leave once my cousin is done.  They were making an OH and an AH every 2 minutes and not that loud.  Okay crazy usher, we left after she finished her torah portion, fed snack and went back in for the last 15 minutes.

Luggage cart =  free entertainment for about an hour!

The party was so fun.  T&Z only napped about 20 minutes in the car, but with all of my family & cousins helping entertain them, they lasted through the entire party without a single whine!  Matt & I were able to eat, grab a few drinks at the bar & enjoyed catching up with family.  The drive back was not so pleasant.  They slept for the first hour and then were unhappy and overtired for the next 2.5 hours.  Let's just say, were so glad to be home after an hour plus of straight crying.

Lots of Gimpels (and Matt!!)

awww ... ties stayed on the entire time!!
They played with glowsticks ...

Got leied & played with hats ...

Ate ice cream ...

Danced ... a lot ...

Played with cousin Seth

Val (2nd cousin), Jess & Hillary (1st cousins) ...

Hopefully it won't be 1.5 more years before we see everyone again! And we better, since many of them volunteered as babysitters and we WILL be taking them up on their offer since 3 of them are in college and less then 2 hours away!

Now ... on to the "business" ... we have official 1.5 yr olds ... SCARY ... here's the latest:

Here are the 18 month memories:
  • Bottles: no change since last update ... 4 sippies, three are WCM (whole cow's milk) & one is 1:4 apple juice to water.
  • Schedule: 1 nap per day, average 1.25 hours.
  • Food: As mentioned in the last blog post, they are doing better.  Chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, breaded fish, cheese sticks, toast, waffles and all snacky food are current favorites.
  • Movement: At 16 months, no walking ... at 18 months, they are running!
  • Clothes: Same Same ... 18-24 month tops &12 month pants (barely)
  • Diapers: Moved up to size 5.
  • Fine Motor skills: We are now stacking square blocks and mega blocks and clapping our hands all day long!  They can both use a spoon, but Zach has more accuracy with getting it into his mouth.
  • Gross Motor skills:  As mentioned above, they are off and running.  They have just (within the past week) learned to stand up without needing help from a table or wall.  They can also pick up a toy without dropping to their knees.
  • Language:  Still lots of babbling, but we have a few words: ball, cheese & down.  They have mimicked Uh oh and shoe, so hopefully we will get those more often now.
  • Teeth: 16 each ...
  • Interaction: Clapping is too easy for them now.  We are still working on pointing.  They have started to have temper tantrums.  When one starts to cry, the other one will follow suit for absolutely no reason.  Awesome times!
  • Mommy:  I have one more week of "freedom" and then I'm back to working out 6 days a week.  I want to lose another 10 lbs.  Please support me :)
  • Daddy: Daddy has been enjoying a cold beer outside lately .... oh warm summer nights!
  • Early Intervention:  We are doing speech therapy and occupational therapy weekly.  If you look back to where we were two months ago, 16 month review, you will see we are seeing tons of growth.  We are going to keep with it!!

1.26 Food isn't so bad after all!

June 11, 2012
By Cyndi

Do I dare write publicly that we've had the best week in food to date?  Do I dare say they ate chicken nuggets, toast with peanut butter, bagel bites, two small bites of eggs, cereal from a bowl and almost all of the daycare lunches?  I know some of those foods are not the best for them, but they are new and it didn't take force for them to eat it!  Mealtime is so stressful but this week, it has been somewhat enjoyable and the thought that I might be able to take them to lunch while running errands by myself, might be a reality!

We are preparing for our first roadtrip with the guys, just a few days away.  We are heading to NY for 36 hours (literally) for a Bat Mitzvah.  This was our #1 weekend for Matt to bid off and it was completely full by the time his turn was up in round 1.  He was able to get one day off and he'll call in sick, cough cough, for the 2nd day.  It will be quick, but I am so excited for the Gimpel family to meet T&Z.  This is the first more than 1 hour car ride and first time since they have been cruising that we will be in a hotel.

Our little guys are becoming big kids.  When we show them how to do something, they remember and repeat it.  They mastered going down a slide (mind you, small kiddy slide), feet first after showing them once.  They rode like big boys on the cart at target.  And at least once every week, we get art projects home from school.  Our once 4lb guys are growing up!!

1.25 It's June already?!?!

June 4, 2012
By Cyndi

Sunday was a tough day for me.  Why Sunday?  The boys behaved and stuck to their schedule.  They ate decently.  I went to a sprinkle for a friend having her 2nd baby.  So why?  Well, it was Tour de Cure.  For three years, I had been helping the American Diabetes Association with Tour (a bike event to raise money for the ADA) and since the boys were born, I haven't had the time or energy to help. They have asked for my help, in as little or large capacity that I could handle.  It is so hard to go the day of to see the event and not be helping ensure its success.  Today is almost as hard as Mother's Day for me.

When I moved to DC, about 9 months after my mom passed away, I needed something to keep me busy, outside of wedding planning.  I helped with the ADA walks but then found Tour.  They welcomed me with open arms and quickly I was responsible for all route signage on more than 150 miles of roads & trails.  I also ran the command center on the day of the event, taking all calls from distressed/lost/confused riders & all rest stops.  At the end of the event, I ensured every rider made it back and loved the feeling of knowing how important my volunteering was an integral part of the success of the event to bring riders back year after year.

I miss Tour ... I miss that I was honoring my mom .... ugh, life is not easy.
Hopefully in another year, I will have the time and energy to volunteer again and hopefully one day Matt, Tyler and Zach can all ride Tour too.

On to happier things, it's June and we're trying to keep busy, since guys need busy to not be bored.  I can confidently say that Zach has his first words!  He will say ball and cheese.  Tyler will say cheese but needs more prompting than Zach.

This is why we don't have a Cozy Coupe ... we'd have to have two!
