Week 35

By Matt
December 8, 2010

Um, about 2 weeks, if that? That's all we have left? You know, that really had not dawned on me until a few people started saying it. I really don't have as much time as my head was thinking I had to sit around pretending like I'm getting everything done on the to-do list. Maybe I'll get on that next week or so.

Anyway, on to this week's update:
Last Wednesday we ventured downtown to attend the National Menorah Lighting with Todd, Stacie plus Lincoln and Daniel and Jill. It was pretty brisk, but at least the ground was not pure mud like last year where I learned I had cracks in both soles of my shoes. Not pleasant. After the abridged program this year - due to some musical instrument difficulties - we secured our latkes and sufganiyot before heading to dinner. (Side note - the planners of this event did it right in years past - they had volunteers to portion out the food and drinks so that the line moved quickly; this year it was everyone for himself. As such, the woman in front of me was grabbing enough food to feed a pack of hungry dogs, all the while saying, "I'm taking for seven people." Whatever helps you sleep at night, lady, I'm glad we were in the front of the line.) The Asian restaurant where we had a reservation was bout 6 blocks away, and Cyndi was able to make the walk, just a bit slow, with the continuous encouragement that it was "just another block or so" every few minutes. Dinner was good, but the more memorable feature of this restaurant was the unisex bathroom. This was not a unisex for an individual, mind you, but rather a multi-stall operation with alternating male and female designators on the commode doors indicating who should go where. I thought about it too late, but letting out a loud grunt would have been fun.

In other non-baby related news, we learned we can hear arguments had by our neighbors whose townhouse is on the front side of our unit. Cyndi and I were about to turn out the light and go to bed Friday night when we heard some yelling. After a brief investigation, we figured out where it was coming from and decided to listen it - yeah, we're those neighbors. The long and short of it was a fight regarding anniversary gifts. Apparently she got him some sweet jacket, and he reciprocated with an iPod. Apparently that's no good? Hey, I'll take it! We learned all this whilst listening to her berate him with language that could make a frat boy blush. I was not aware that an f-bomb could be dropped with that frequency within such a short amount of time. Now I know, thanks neighbor! And if you're reading, happy anniversary!

On to the babies:
It's easy to have a clear picture of what's going on and how they are doing when there are two appts each week - one OB and one ultrasound. During the OB appts we have scheduled the "end" date, that is, the scheduled induction/C-section. So unless they decide to make their introduction sooner, the cadets will arrive December 21st. And not to jinx anything, but it really is looking like that really could be the date, per the ultrasound appts. At our most recent one, last Monday, the ultrasound tech stated, "you're not even close" after measuring the cervix and seeing that both babies had resorted back to the transverse position (both horizontal). Sorry Laura, there will be no manipulating the due date to coincide with baby pool guesses.
We also learned that Baby A's weight has caught up to Baby B; they are each just under 5 lbs at this point, though this can be +/- 2lbs -- two 7 pounders Cyndi, eh, eh?? Since they are now equal weight, I suppose this means we can no longer refer to Baby B as "fatty" as we had been for the past few weeks. I'll be sure not to disclose that to her when she's a teen, if in fact Baby B is female.

P.S. December 21st also means there will be no winner in the baby pool, too bad too because I had a sweet new iPod to give away.

Obligatory belly shot:

  1. I really wish Mike could have enjoyed the unisex bathroom, that would have been an entertaining story!
