2.27 T&Z'isms

June 17, 2013
By Matt

"They're two and change." Guess I won't be saying that anymore when anyone asks since Tyler and Zachary are now officially 2 1/2 years old. It's fun to see their individual personalities really start to show now, as they become more opinionated and aware of everything going on around them. I'm so glad to have all that baby stuff behind us, though I really don't think I'm ready to advance to the next major milestones -- transitioning them to big boy beds and potty training. One step at a time, and at least I don't have to do hair in the mornings. Oy, that would be a spectacle [read: sh*t show]. Only 15 1/2 more years to go, eh boys!

Similar to my last post, this will mostly pertain to their little quips that I catch when it is just me and the fellas on weekday mornings.

-- "Be careful birds!" - when seeing the birds (that subsequently built nests under our deck) stand on the railing just outside the sliding glass door.

-- "Go to Wegmans, get more crackers" -- Zachary's reply to me one morning when he wanted crackers for breakfast and I told him that I did not have any and I would have to go to the store to get more. I did not previously say the store's name, Wegmans, which is the grocery store Cyndi takes them to most Saturday mornings to do our food shopping.

-- "In the tent, Daddy!" -- They spontaneously wanted to play hide and seek, so Tyler runs into the living room where their tent play structure was assembled. I start to yell, "Where's Tyler?"  T immediately yells, "In the tent, Daddy!" Obviously we need to work on conveying the intricacies of this game.

-- "Feet in front, Daddy!" -- They have been much better about it lately, but for a long while both boys would sit on the floor in the W position, where their bottoms would be on the floor and their legs would be out to the sides but with the inside of each knee also touching the floor. When they sit like this, we instruct them, "Feet in front." I was sitting with my legs crossed in front of me, Indian-style. I then proceeded to show them how to cross their legs like me; this turns into a very fun game - for them - of having me cross their legs and T&Z uncrossing them, which then resulted in "again, Daddy!"

-- "Drink beer!" -- I have a simple grey shirt that says Purdue University on it. One time while wearing it I told them what it says, and they repeated it. So I was wearing it one morning and one of them recognized it, and I began asking them questions, and the exchange went as such:
"You guys want to go to Purdue?"
"Purdue!"
"You want to go to Purdue to drink beer?"
"Drink beer!"
"You want to go to Purdue to meet girls?"
"Meet girls!"
"You want to go to Purdue to go to class?"
"Drink beer!"

Aren't you so proud, Cyndi?

Sticking with the Purdue theme:

-- "Purdue!" -- Zach was still eating breakfast one morning, Tyler was down from the table, and I was washing dishes. Tyler comes over and starts digging in my back pocket. He pulls out a piece of paper and begins to study it and says, "Daddy's paper." I ask him if he can read it and if he can tell me what it says. From the table yells Zach: "Purdue!"

-- "Great job, doggie" -- Zach was reading a Mickey Mouse counting book with me on the couch. He was doing a good job counting, then says something about doggie, one of their favorite stuffed animals. He gets off the couch, finds doggie, comes back to the couch and takes one of doggie's paws to make the stuffed animal count the items on the page. It was very cute and when doggie was done "counting," Zachary says to it, "Great job, doggie"

-- "Time out, construction guy" -- It seems both boys have an understanding of time-outs. On the same day, they each put the same little two inch construction guy toy in time out, for reasons unknown. No other little toys, only the construction guy.

Father's Day was pretty low key, the guys were (mostly) well behaved and we had a good grilled dinner to end the day. Until next time.....
